The world is facing unprecedented challenges, marked by geopolitical tensions, systemic economic shifts, and the accelerating manifestations of climate change. Against this backdrop, advancing actionable climate research remains an imperative priority.
We are pleased to announce the 5th edition of the international conference “Action versus Inaction facing Climate Change” (AICC), taking place from June 9 to 11, 2027, hosted by the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in Hamburg, Germany, with support from the UNU Hub and HafenCity University (HCU).
Building on the success of our previous editions in Paris (2023), Strasbourg (2024), Lausanne (2025), and Rome (2026), AICC 2027 introduces an expanded interdisciplinary format. While maintaining its strong foundation in economics, public policy, and collective decision-making, this edition builds a vital bridge with engineering sciences, technology, and development studies.
Whether addressing adaptation or mitigation, engineering brings an essential dimension to operationalizing climate strategies. By bringing together researchers, decision-makers, and practitioners, the conference aims to deepen the dialogue across economics, engineering, urban planning, environmental science, history, geography, and political science.

- Low-carbon technologies and industrial processes;

Call for Papers & Submissions:
We welcome contributions from researchers at all career stages—from master’s and PhD students to senior scholars—as well as professionals from industry, public administration, and NGOs.
The Call for Papers will open in October 2026, with long abstracts for individual papers, posters, and full session proposals due in early 2027. All submissions will be evaluated by the AICC Scientific Committee. Keynotes and registration details will be announced shortly.
